My Soulful Summer Reading List: 4 Books to Inspire You

Soul Inspiration

When was the last time you sat and read a book? Sadly, in the era of Netflix binging and social media scrolling, kicking back with a book has become a rare occurrence for many of us. But, as I look forward to taking some time off this summer, I’m also looking forward to curling up with a good book and a cup of tea!

So what am I looking forward to reading? Below I have shared my soulful summer reading list; 4 books meant to inspire positive change.

The Judgement Detox by Gabrielle Bernstein

This book is all about offering insight into why we judge ourselves and others. It focuses on the concept of embracing self-love and acceptance and leads readers step by step to release the limiting beliefs that holds them back from living a better life. In my own healing journey I have become increasingly aware of how relevant this topic is, especially when we work to cultivate self-compassion and grace for ourselves.

Gabrielle is a motivational speaker, life coach and author of several books. I really enjoyed her last book, The Universe Has Your Back, and hence look forward to reading her newest – The Judgement Detox.

The Life-Changing Magic of Not Giving a F*ck by Sarah Knight

This hilarious and practical parody of Marie Kondo’s bestselling book The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up explains how to rid yourself of unwanted obligations, and stop spending time you don’t have with people you don’t like and doing things you don’t want to do.

I’m excited to read this book because I have heard great things about this author and how she brings humour into a subject that so many of us find challenging: people pleasing. So if you are a people pleaser or a recovering people pleaser (like myself) then pull up a chair and let’s dive into this juicy book together! Sure to start some great conversations between you and your friends this book is definitely relevant for the challenges that many of us face as we try to carve out time to make ourselves a priority.

Choose Wonder Over Worry by Amber Rae

Why do we hold ourselves back from pursuing our bliss? Why do we listen to the voice in our heads that tells us that we aren’t good enough, smart enough or worthy of creating a life that reflects who we really are? These are just some of the topic address in this book.

Dubbed as “the Brenè Brown of Wonder”, Amber Rae guides readers through her thoughtful storytelling with vulnerability and soulfulness all the while inviting her readers to listen to their emotions rather than silence them – something that as you know from my previous blog post, ‘feel it to heal it’, I’m all about!

Girl Wash Your Face by Rachel Hollis

Have you ever felt like everyone else has life figured out and that you don’t have a clue? If so, then Rachel Hollis has something to tell you: it’s a lie. In this funny and heartwarming book Hollis helps her readers to “Stop believing the lies about who you are so that you can become who you were meant to be.”

Combining tough love and personal candour along with using her personal struggles with food, sex and motherhood as teaching moments, this book promises to have you laughing out loud while offering concrete, relatable and pragmatic advice on living an authentic and meaningful life.

So that’s it friends, my top summer soulful reads! I can’t wait to sink my teeth into them further and invite you to read along with me. I’d love to hear your comments and what you think of the books in the comments below.

xo, M
