What Does It Mean To Be In Alignment?

Alignment is when you feel like you’re in that ‘sweet spot’, that you’re taking steps forward based on listening to our own intuition and Soul’s purpose. Alignment is when your external journey is at a point of congruence with your instinctual, highest self, knowingness or intuition. It’s my opinion that action, in alignment with our intuition, is the most important element of healing and personal fulfillment. In short, alignment is when we are living our Soul’s purpose.

Alignment can feel like a sense of congruency, like every aspect of life is exactly how you want it to be, and evokes feelings of gratitude, joy and peace. However, when we are out of alignment with our Soul’s purpose or blueprint we can feel negative, stuck, impatient and frustrated. Things might feel heavy, or no matter how hard you try things don’t seem to go your way.

So how do we get into alignment?

First it’s important to note that one of the most common reasons for being out of alignment is due to societal conditioning and limiting beliefs. This can come about from ways of thinking that you were taught to you as a child, or what you were told to believe as good or bad, possible or impossible. For example, when you were asked what you wanted to be when you grew up, and you answered “an artist” or “an astronaut” were you met with laughs, judgement or doubt? This can make you believe that your aspirations aren’t possible or you’re silly to believe that you could ever achieve your dreams. When in reality, that’s what your Soul dreamed of at the time and may indeed be part of your purpose here in this lifetime, however learnt limiting beliefs now hold you back.

Dreams can certainly change, but you may have oppressed your truest desires because you thought they weren’t practical or possible or you were afraid of being judged. You may have grown up in an environment where due to harsh or traumatic circumstances, you needed to focus on surviving versus having the freedom and support to follow your curiosities and dreams.

Perhaps this is your story and you, like many of the people I’ve worked with, have these same thoughts or experiences and have therefore taken a life path that’s been more practical, either out of necessity or because it was deemed “safe.”

What many people don’t realize is the negative impact this can have on our health. Living a life out of alignment can absorb more of your energy than you realize because you are working harder towards something that isn’t aligned with your Soul’s purpose. This misalignment can then show up in our lives manifesting as anxiety, depression and even physical disease.

Coming into alignment isn’t accomplished overnight, but by getting still, going inward and beginning to tune into our intuition (our Soul’s voice) we can begin to find our way back to alignment by taking aligned actions one step at a time. When we listen and move forward based on how our mind-body-soul guides us, we become aligned once again with our Soul’s purpose. You’ll know whether the actions you take are in alignment because for most people ‘it just feels right’. You’ll also feel greater joy and fulfillment. For example: if you want to be an artist, pick up a paintbrush for fun one day. If you dream of being a singer, sing. If you want to live somewhere warm, start researching and visiting places. Coming into alignment is about taking little steps that intuitively feel good to you and make you feel joyful and inspired. It’s your bliss that creates the roadmap to your personal fulfillment and purpose.
